Artist’s statement

My drawings are an attempt to lift the taboo around eroticism by offering an alternative to what the internet typically presents today, where the dominance of pornography narrows the way we perceive sexuality. I aim to show that sexuality can follow the golden ratio, be refined, and carry a distinct artistic signature.

Bio

My name is Lesha Kovalchuk, I'm 32 years old. I was born in Kyiv but received my art education in St. Petersburg — a city that became a turning point in my development. There, in the Hermitage and the Russian Museum, I discovered the work of Art Nouveau artists, Japanese prints, and Renaissance art, with its focus on anatomy and the harmony of form. These influences, combined with my study of the Russian avant-garde and Suprematists — whose bold graphics and unconventional compositions taught me to see art as a way of breaking familiar forms and perspectives — became the core foundation of my style.

I began creating my first erotic images back in art school, where it started more as a provocation. Over time, I realized that it wasn’t just a passing interest, but a way to explore anatomy, form, and the expression of human passion on a deeper level. After returning to Kyiv, a local brand approached me with a proposal to create a series of provocative illustrations for T-shirts. Although the project didn’t materialize, the idea stayed with me, and I continued to develop the theme. That’s how I became an erotic illustrator.
