Turning patriarchal imagery and racial bias back on itself, in these constructions Selbach creates the foundation of each assemblage with art historical prints and traditional women's handiwork then turns the dark walnut carved figures to defiantly face the viewer and claim their place in control of their own story.

The foundation of this construction is a found object vintage art panel. The figure of the contemporary odalisque was cut from dark walnut by the artist and mounted on the assemblage of historical images and lace. The power of the contemporary women takes back the autonomy of her desire and owns her personal power. Flipping the narrative.
