Artwork details
Turning patriarchal imagery and racial bias back on itself, in these constructions Selbach creates the foundation of each assemblage with art historical prints and traditional women's handiwork then turns the dark walnut carved figures to defiantly face the viewer and claim their place in control of their own story.
Reclaiming her narrative on sexuality and desire. Flipping generations old paradigms of sexual oppression and stereotyping. Édouard Manets Olympia is the backdrop for a dark walnut cut out figure of a reclining woman resting on lace and owning her place and her desire. Collaged and stacked on a reclaimed hardwood surface.
